About Me

Hello! My name is Steffaney Wood, and welcome to my corner of the internet. Currently, I am a PhD student at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego studying marine chemical biology and harmful algal blooms. Recently, in July 2020, I completed a MS in microbiology at the University of Helsinki. For my MS thesis, I continued the work I did as a Fulbright-EDUFI Fellow conducting research on harmful cyanobacteria blooms in the northern Baltic Sea. I am also a 2018 graduate of Davidson College with a BS in environmental studies, chemistry minor.

I am proud to call Southern California, the Washington D.C. area, and Davidson, NC all home. In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with family, friends, and sweet dogs Dobby and Pepper, running, practicing yoga, and doing fun macrame projects. And, for a fun fact, I am a big fan of Pope Francis, Rachel Carson, and The Lumineers. Overall, I am excited to be here in San Diego and for all the accompanying adventures to come.
